3 Common Workout Mistakes

It's hard enough to find time to workout. Make your workouts more effective by avoiding these common mistakes.

Holding on to the Treadmill

I see this in the gym daily.  Someone is huffing away on the treadmill, giving it all they can, yet they are holding on to the rails with their hands.  If you need to use the rails for safety reasons, you should definitely go ahead and do so.

However, if you can let go of the rails and move your arms (like you would do when running or walking fast), you'll burn more calories.

Using Too Much Weight

Guys are usually guilty of this one. Using too much weight often leads to a poor range of motion and forces other muscles to help the muscles that you are targeting. This leads slower gains. Additionally, there's a much higher chance of injury when you add too much weight to your exercise.

Using a Limited Range of Motion

Whether due to excess weight or poor form, performing an exercise with a limited range cheats your muscle out of it's full potential. It's best to slow the exercise down, use less weight if needed and go through the full range of motion for each rep.
